Regardless how many products you add to your site, more often than not, your articles and info based content is most likely going to perform better in the search engines and get you ranked for keyword phrases if done properly.

Here are some basic website content writing tips to incorporate into your website content strategy.

Write in posts – If you are using WordPress, write your content into posts rather than pages. Posts are much more SEO friendly and have many elements that work well for internal links such as showing tag links in the meta data. Also you can assign posts to multiple relevant categories which spreads out your content on the site and allows people to find it in different places related to their interests.

Optimize each post for 3 long tailed keyword phrases – Write your posts with a maximum of three relevant long tailed keyword phrases in mind. Make sure to write the content interesting, well researched, useful and make sure to pepper the 3 keyword phrases throughout the content and make them appear naturally.

Make the content tease the reader - Tell them the “what” but not the “how” perhaps. Or write your article about “20 awesome ways to …” and then only give them 10 and get them to enter their name and email for the full report.

Do not copy directly from other sources online - Try to be as unique as possible. Google will know if you copied the content and will penalize you if you have duplicate content. You can gather information and statistics but it needs to be written in your own words.

Refer to your products throughout without direct selling - You want to create value in your information, but should still point out where in your product or service they can get more information on the given subject of the post. Be suggestive instead of salesy.

Website Content Formatting

Formatting your content is very important also and should be punchy, easy to read and scan. Here are some tips on how to format your content to ensure maximum readability.

Every post NEEDS a headline. All headings should be written to entice / interest the reader. Headlines should be in a Heading 1 style.

Sub-headings should summarize why the reader needs to know this content. Should be in a Heading 2 style.

No paragraph should be longer than five lines. Which is usually the equivalent of 2-3 sentences max.

When you change the subject within the content, re-engage with another Heading in H2 style. Describing what you are about to talk next. Large Fun Headline.

Use bulleted and numbered lists as often as possible whenever you refer to more than 2 items in a paragraph.

Bold words used in paragraphs that absolutely must be read. But do not overbold. Only one or two words per paragraph max. A huge percentage of your visitors will only scan over your content posts so allow them to get the gist of it by reading only the bold words that stick out.

Finally, make sure to include a call to action to your posts. It can be a list of relevant products, a form for them to fill out or even just have social media comments added to the bottom of your posts to encourage people to share.

In the MAS Global Internet Business Program, we cover copy writing extensively. Having someone help you create a content strategy and execute it properly is often the difference between a useless website in cyber space and a popular site with hundreds of thousands of visitors.

Lately I have been working with a number of clients on creating classified ad website businesses. There are many important considerations when venturing into this model that will determine your success or failure and how long it will take to see a return.

Below I will share some things to think about that could help you decide if it is the right model for your situation:

Pros

Multiple Revenue stream opportunities. A good looking classified ads website with all the bells and whistles serving a real niche can actually charge for placing ads. Then there are options for upgrading paid ads to featured ads for an extra fee to prominently display the ad for better exposure. Then of course once you reach critical mass with a solid viewership, you can start selling banner ad zones on the site with either monthly fees, cpm or cpc pricing. Also you can create dealership ad pricing and contact existing dealerships that sell old stock or used former customer products and give them bulk ad pricing.

Ease of entry. There are many themes and plugins you can get for only a few hundred dollars to get you up and running in no time. In the Ultimate Internet Business Course I include the entire design of this type of website business complete with all of the modern functionality required to run an effective classified ads website so you could be up and running in under a week for very little money.

User generated content. Of course you will still need to write some informative, useful and interesting content for the site partially guided by keyword research, but for the most part, every time someone adds a new item for sale to the site, they are adding content to it. Once Google starts crawling the site they (the Google Bots) will recognize this newly added content and you should find a good ranking for hundreds of phrases as soon as you get a good number of ads.

Ads are fairly easy to sell. Once you have a site with over 10k in organic traffic per month, it becomes appealing to e-tailers, retailers and other companies looking to increase there visitors. The targeted nature of your traffic should be of special mention when selling your ads as these people are more than Google searchers, they are people actually looking to buy products.

Easy to promote through social networks. Some find it quite a lengthy process to turn Facebook likes or twitter followers into customers when selling their own products on their sites such as ebooks etc. With a Classified ads site, you posts relating to great deals recently added to your site are usually quite well received, liked and shared without the need to always write or find fascinating new post content.

Cons

Getting started with ads. Once you have your new classified ads website live and looking great, you need to convince people to place ads. This is why it is usually good to go into niches that you have a personal passion for that you can contribute ads of your own stuff initially and work it from a grass roots level. Involve family, friends and exhausting your personal network is a great way to start before approaching organizations to promote your site.

Long term model. Unlike an ebook website that can be put together relatively quickly and then PPC traffic can be thrown at it to test the conversion and audiences reaction immediately, this model takes a lot of work in promoting and creating awareness before any money is made. Sometimes it can take up to a year to produce a considerable income. However, if you stick with it and keep working on it driven by passion, you will have advertisers back-ordering your ad zones and money rolling in from featured ad upgrades.

Building Traffic. This is a different revenue model than a direct sell e-commerce site, however it still requires the same cumbersome inbound marketing initiatives.

As you can see, there are more pros than cons for this type of website business, the key is you have to be in it for the long haul and still need to work with someone initially that can help you do it right.

I have researched literally all of the available themes and aps (trust me some are a total waste of time and money!) and have all the information you need to get the traffic and choose the right advertising networks initially to start making money from your classified ads site. Get in touch if you are interested in this website business model.

The number one challenge when starting an internet business from scratch is to nail down that elusive, profitable website idea. Finding a niche market small enough to penetrate quickly; but large enough to get enough traffic to make good money from has always been the the initial stumbling block for many web-entrepreneurs without any guidance.

This without a doubt is where the journey starts for everyone, and ends for many. Discovering great website ideas takes thinking outside-the-box and using certain tools to kick off your search process.

What I cover with all clients is to start your journey using Google Suggest.

This handy tool is connected to a useful database of all past Google user’s searches and will reveal what others have searched for as you start typing. It can be accessed just by starting to type into the Google search field. Now what is brilliant about this is if you start typing problem statement related phrases, it will reveal precisely what hobby they are searching for answers on.

Certain problem phrases have proven over time to convert much higher as they are much further along the buying process than others.

Of course I can’t reveal here all of the types of problem statements people start their searches with as this is covered in the program, but I can say, this is an excellent way to almost fully exhaust what everyone is searching for related to a market and therefore will produce a great list of excellent website ideas that you can then plug into other tools to determine the size of the market.

If you do not want to spend hours looking for niche market website ideas, then this will be perfect for you:

I am working with some colleagues right now on creating an amazing package of The Top 100 Niche Market Website Ideas. This is scheduled for release in early July and will include 100 well researched and validated niche markets, along with custom designed wordpress websites and product suggestions for each one.

Product suggestions and where to get them made for cheap – we will suggest ebooks, digital downloads or affiliate product for each market giving you the best chance to convert sales in each market

Custom wordpress websites specific to each niche – completely designed professional looking WordPress websites that will blow away any other site in it’s market

Niche marketing on the internet is without a doubt the easiest way to understand exactly what a specific market wants, get ranked for niche long tailed keyword phrases and often converts higher than any market saturated with competition.

But the challenge is, as I work with many clients, it seems what many think a niche market is, is in fact not niche at all on the internet.

So the question we must answer before beginning our search is: What is a niche market for purposes of selling online?

Firstly, a niche market is much smaller than many think.

If the market is familiar to almost anyone, it is too large and most likely saturated.

If it is a very strange and peculiar interest that is adopted by, say a few thousand people in your area then you could be on to something.

It really needs to be small enough to fly under the radar screen of companies deeming it unprofitable to create products for that market.

Secondly, a niche market should be severe to be successful. One of the main things you need to ask yourself about the niche market is:

Are those involved in this niche hobby extremely passionate and loyal to the niche?

Are those involved in this niche desperate to have EVERYTHING related to it?

Are those suffering from a niche condition willing to pay for something in the form of sound advice that will help them recover?

If your niche answers yes to the above then it will be very easy to rank for it and will get a great social media following if you come up with a great product or service to offer them.

If physical products are your choice to sell online, then a niche market for selling products is usually a small gap in between larger markets. Products that can make mainstream products easier to use. Some examples of very successful clients selling products in excellent niche markets are:

Selling trampoline parts for trampolines. Believe it or not, trampoline parts are being searched for online more than the trampolines themselves.

Selling unique doll clothes for popular dolls. Sure you can buy dolls online from hundreds of thousands of online retailers, but what about cool outfits for them. Tennis outfits, special occasion dresses, you name it they will buy it.

You see, whatever product becomes a huge hit, usually trails thousands of internet searches for accessories or instructions or products that help make better use of that product, and that is where you want to focus.

So really we should be calling this micro niche marketing. I usually tell people to come up with 5 things they think is niche, then try to identify two sub refined areas within each of the five and start your keyword research journey from there.

For those that prefer numbers to understand what a niche market is, here is my formula:

Search volume:

must have at least 10,000 accumulative searches per month for 3 or 4 word long tailed phrases and must have a ceiling no less than 100,000 searches for core phrases (2-3 word phrases)

Competition:

for phrases with roughly 1,000 to 10,000 searches per month, you do not want more than 500,000 competing sites in google when you type the following into Google:

Using the [intitle:] operator directly before your keyword phrase shows your real competition that you are up against. Pretty much if a site does not have the keyword phrase in its title tag, you can easily get ranked above them.

If you find this interesting and would like me to break it down into real easy to understand terms, why not get in touch. Together we can find the perfect niche market for you, that is in fact a viable and profitable niche!

One of the areas I find that are just not covered enough is “what markets and products are actually producing sales these days”?

Well, working with many clients and watching their sales trends and how we need to re-position their offerings sometimes, it seems some old standards are no longer appealing and it might be time for a change to your sales copy lingo also.

In a time where everyone starts their internet search for “free information” along with the introduction of many free how-to video sites and free ebooks, the emphasis for extreme value comes into play now more than ever!

Some of the best converting items we sell online today are digital products. these are also the best revenue model for automation and simplicity. Anything you can think of that people “normally pay for” offline is a great place to start.

Some items that people are accustom to traditionally pay for that make great online digital products are:

blueprints

plans

diagrams

stencils

masks

templates

printables

step by step instructions

Interactive learning programs

Print, cut-out and assemble crafts of all kinds

There are literally hundreds if not thousands of awesome niche markets that cater perfectly to products mentioned above that have hundreds of thousands of people looking for them with very few sites offering anything in that space.

Ebooks these days must be EXTREMELY unique, intriguing, in-demand and must truly solve a problem your market is troubled with, using enough testimonials to back it up and must offer a 100% money back guarantee in order to reach a high enough conversion to make any real decent money from.

Therefore, add value to your ebook offering by adding more products to it. Add worksheets, study guides or journals and add actionable activities with your ebook so you can call it a package or a program instead, which has shown to increase conversions these days substantially.

With two of my very popular sites selling printable masks and pumpkin stencils, (which combined bring in over 1 million visitors a year), the market classifies these purchases as tangible products even though they are delivered via download which makes them a little more desirable, and worthy of paying for.

Just remember, you still need to have the BEST products available and they need to stand out from all the other sites on the first 2 pages of Google in order for yours to sell really well.

If you want to create your own killer website selling “unique digital products” of your own, let me help. I can walk you through finding the right market and how to create the products and then how to sell them properly.

Matt Cutts recently released that a new Google algorithm change is happening soon that will sniff out sites that keyword spam poor content.

In order to provide better quality or more relevant results for searchers, Google is getting smart enough to find sites that only create content for ranking purposes instead of to provide information of use on a given topic.

One of the ways Google is identifying these sites is by unnatural inbound link patterns. Which means that if most of your inbound links to your site have the keyword phrase in them linking to the highly optimized for the keyword phrase page content, that would be unnatural and therefore raise red flags.

How to stay ahead of this and continue to rank well would be to “be aware” of your keyword phrases and use them as a starting basis for writing new content. But do not write simple useless content that is not going to be of interest to anyone just for the purposes of getting ranked.

Some other suggestions for avoiding this penalty would be to:

Avoid duplicate content and keep your title tags and meta descriptions unique to the page content.

Make sure that inbound links are not all focused on anchor text that is just the keyword phrase.

use stats, opinions and research from your own resources in your content.

In my opinion, if you have selected the right market and are passionate about the subject, you should have no problem writing interesting new content around your identified keyword phrases and therefore avoiding any Google penalties.

Why not let me help you write content for your blog or website. I can show you how power words add excitement and how to lay out your content ahead of time that makes it easier to write and read. Get in touch!

A client recently asked: How can I increase the conversion rates for sales in my website? It is my understanding that all affiliates conversion sales will only be what your site conversion rate is? what are some of the ways to increase that…better salescopy, video, links?

well first of all…

No it is not true that your affiliates conversion rates will be the same as yours. The probability of a sale being made from an affiliate (depending on the loyalty of their traffic and the credibility of their site,) will quite often be higher than your own sales conversions.

remember, an affiliate properly selling your product, is actually endorsing it and recommending it.

As for how to increase conversions on your site, there are many things you can do.

Increase the value of your product. At the end of the day, you need to feel 100% that what you are offering is better than anything else available and then this value needs to be communicated in your sales copy.

Add videos of testimonials. Testimonials of your product not of you personally.

Price test different prices every couple thousand visitors. 1000 sales at $17.95 is better than 150 sales at $27.

Change up your product. Sometimes the term ebook can sound a little tired and lack lustre. Perhaps switching it to a “learning kit” or a “health program” can add a twist that could stimulate new sales.

Get your product reviewed or used by an official organization. The majority of your web visitors have probably never heard of you before visiting your site. That requires a huge leap of faith to buy a product from you then. If it is has been reviewed by or used by an official organization, that might add the credibility you need to win over their confidence in you.

Focus on ALL of your conversion goals. There are usually two types of sales conversions you need to focus on, not just visitors to sales. The first is the conversion of the click from your content pages to your checkout page. That is the one that should be in the 5% or more range. Then comes the checkout page to transaction completion conversion. In theory, that should be around 30-40% as statistically most clients get a 60-70% shopping cart abandon rate. If your content pages are not getting the 5% clickthrough to the checkout phase, then you need to sell them better on those pages. If the shopping cart abandon rate is higher than 70%, you need to close the deal with more value on the checkout page or reduce the number of clicks required to actually complete a transaction with you.

Use photos of people on your website. This has proven to double conversion rates in some instances.

I hope these help you in your quest for higher conversions. This is an area in the program we spend much time on, as a simple increase from 1% – 2% means thousands of extra dollars per month in revenue.

A client once asked: What exactly is a featured video in YouTube and how does it compare to getting the edge on viewers? Is it worth going that route? I have a very unique video and would like to get mass coverage.

Excellent question. A Youtube featured or more commonly a spotlight video can really launch views to a new level and if your video is designed right send your traffic through the roof also.

First off you need to create your video properly:

Content focused on a good keyword phrase (not selling)

8 minutes or less is best

Your website URL watermarked throughout

Create the video file name with the keyword phrase in it

upload to Youtube and make sure to use descriptions and tags with the keyword phrase in it. (very important)

Once it has been uploaded, solicit top ratings and positive comments from other youtube members, friends, family, virtually everyone you can.

Once your video has good ratings and comments, Send an email to editor@youtube.com, and attach a link to the YouTube video you would like to have featured. Do not attach the video. It must first be uploaded to the YouTube site!

Explain to them why you think your video is worth being featured. Even if the video hasn’t yet received a high rating or a lot of views, the editor may deem it worthy.

Make a heart warming compelling case as to how many people need this information etc. Featured videos are mostly from yourtube partners, but they do throw in a spotlight video now and again.
